Clogged Main Drain Line in a Daycare – Here’s What Really Happened

We got a clogged main drain line emergency call from a daycare in Plano, TX. All the toilets were overflowing at the same time – every single one. Kids running around, staff panicking, water coming up from everywhere… the whole place basically shut down because the main drain line was completely clogged. When we arrived, it was clear this wasn’t a small bathroom clog.

This was a full main line backup. So we pulled out our professional RIDGID drain snake, got proper access to the line, and started working through the blockage. It didn’t take long to figure out what caused it.

Wet wipes. A huge ball of them. Someone – most likely one of the kids – flushed wet wipes down the toilet. And once one kid does it, the rest think it’s a great idea too. Wet wipes do NOT dissolve in water, and in places like daycares, restaurants, or offices, they turn into a hard, sticky plug inside the main line.

Once we cleared the clog and got everything draining again, we did a full video camera inspection to make sure the pipe wasn’t damaged and that nothing else was stuck down the line. Everything looked good, and the daycare was able to get back to normal operations. Kids will be kids – but even one wet wipe can shut down a whole building.

On top of that, this job shows exactly why emergency plumbing is not a DIY thing. When a main line is blocked in a commercial place, you don’t get “a slow drain” – you get a complete shutdown, flooded bathrooms, and a health hazard. If we arrived even an hour later, the water damage could’ve spread into the hallways and classrooms.

This is why having a licensed plumber who actually answers the phone and shows up fast can literally save a business from thousands of dollars in damage. And this is exactly what we handle every week across Frisco, Plano, McKinney, Allen, and nearby areas – real emergency calls, real problems, real solutions

Why did all the toilets in the daycare overflow at the same time?

It happened because the main drain line was fully clogged, not just one toilet. When the main line is blocked, every fixture connected to that pipe backs up at once – that’s why every toilet in the building overflowed at the same time.

The clog was created by wet wipes. Even “flushable” wipes don’t dissolve in water. One person flushes them – and they pile up. Over time they form a hard plug inside the main pipe. We pulled out a huge clump of wipes during the repair.

Yes. Most daycares and restaurants need regular camera inspections and maintenance snaking because kids and staff flush wipes, toys, paper towels, and other junk. Catching buildup early prevents full shutdowns like this one.
